Hammerson Plc is a FTSE 100 Real Estate Investment Trust which operates principally in the retail sector in the UK and France. Our £6.5 billion portfolio includes 15 major shopping centres, 19 retail parks and nine office buildings in London and Paris’ CBD.
Our strategy is to create value by developing and actively managing high quality properties to meet the needs of occupiers, partners and shareholders. Sustainability is integral to our approach and we focus our initiatives on five material areas: climate change and energy; resource use; community regeneration; supply chain and customers. Major successes in 2008 include a 10% reduction in carbon emissions from UK and French shopping centres and the provision of education and training for 6,000 jobs created at new retail schemes in Bristol and Leicester. Sector leader in CDP6, the most recent Carbon Disclosure Project, we focus on measuring and reporting to improve performance.
Hammerson is a founding member of the Better Building Partnership. Our Head of Sustainability, Paul Edwards, chairs the Owner Occupier Working Group.
