HOW TO USE THIS TOOLKIT

Each section of the Toolkit follows the chronological order of the fit-out process; however, they can be read independently. Readers can dip into sections that have particular interest to them or share with relevant stakeholders and teams. Where other sections of the Toolkit are closely related and relevant, content is easily signposted with links.

Each section of the fit-out process is a key intervention point where owners, occupiers and their representatives can engage, collaborate and share information.

Within each section, there are headline points, as well as the ability to explore these further through click throughs and accordion features. Readers can first take an overview, then choose to explore those areas that interest them most. Each section provides guidance content and often features drop down notices providing greater detail and/or summary information.

The Requirements Framework section differs slightly from the other sections. It provides in-depth guidance on the design principles of a responsible office fit-out and aims to set out what occupiers could request of their design team. Pages within the Requirements Framework identify the ‘Opportunities’ of design solutions; ‘Design Principles’ to be discussed with design teams; ‘Further Information’ containing links relevant industry guidance; 'Rating References' provides links to relevant sections of industry rating schemes; and finally provides a ‘Solutions Scrapbook’ (see 3. Inspiring).

This guide also provides practical design principles and examples that can be used when setting a requirements brief and articulating aspirations to a design team.

Design Consultants - it set-out why clients should be interested in incorporating sustainability principles within their fit-outs, providing opportunities for consultants to showcase how they can deliver such services.

Yes. The 'Solutions Scrapbook' provides examples of responsible fit-outs in practice. Collected from across the property industry, and including BBP member examples, these case study snippets not only demonstrate what is possible, but also present potential organisations and contacts that can be further explored in order to gain from their experience. 

This Toolkit has been created as an online resource to enable updates to information to be made easily when relevant changes occur, such as new legislation or new references sources becoming available. It also allows for greater collation and sharing of stories of sustainable fit-outs from across our membership and the wider industry.
